Insert and Update product_parent_id from the Product Edit Info screem

I have a number of products already in my shop that are really children of other products.
I am not able to INSERT or UPDATE the 'product_parent_id" in the "_virtuemart_products" table.

I was able to add a field to the layout to see the value that I assigned via phpMyAdmin to those records that have a value.

However I would like to be able to add or edit that product_parent_id directly from the Virtuemart Product Information screen.

Any input would be helpful. Thank you!
