virtuemart customer reg table separate from joomla reg

Hi,
I have been using mambo+mambo-phpshop since 2004, after fixing a number of bugs in the base code (Soeren might remember me:-)).  Anyway, way back then it was clear that mambo-phpshop (now virtuemart) customers should have a customer registration that is completely separate from the mambo (now joomla) registration table.

I now finally need to upgrade to a new cart system and am once again looking at joomla+virtuemart.

I read with interest the Sept 2016 "Latest News" blog entry by Max Milbers in which he talks about:
"Transforming VirtueMart to a cms-less system forces us to use an own user table. "

I am wondering when a version of VirtueMart with a separate shop customer registration will be available?
