Product and Category META

Hello guys,

I've been looking on google and these forums for quite some time and i don't seem to be able to find a clear answer on my question..

My question is this:
How important is the product meta information under the product description tab?
Is google even paying attention to it? And is it important for potential customers looking on google?
Or are a good title and description enough?
ALso..Is there a difference between te short description and the longer product description? Or can i enter a big description in the short description area? ( i don't like the placement of the long product description)

I REALLY hope someone can answer these questions for me. It will be MUCH appreciated!

PS: im using the latest joomla and virtuemart. Latest PHP etc.

Hi,
the answer is simple, the meta description, is used to display the description on google search results for eg.
If this is missing, then google display most of time the begin of the page. So this are in most sites the menus.
So it's important to have right meta description, because this is displayed, but it's not used to define your page rank and position on search.

and re desc.. short desc is only plain text .. and has limited characters

surely more simple to adjust the template display of the normal desc.

So if i understand you guys correctly, the description will be used as meta info.
So the product meta information under the product description tab i don't need to fill in. That is correct?

nope wrong

if u fill the meta desc it will be used as the SERP snippet

if not anything could be used.. incl. goobly gook, menus etc etc

ALright. So i need to fill in the short description, the long description. And all the meta info. Correct?

Won't that make duplicate meta info??
