Dear All

we are about to start developing a new Joomla 3/VM 3 website - and finally upgrade from our earlier Joomla 1.5/VM 1.1 solution. (www.rarenoiserecords.com)

One of the problems that plagued our current installation was the unreliability of large downloads. We are a record label offering download of large files (24bit / 96kHz) and this has been an issue affecting our credibility with customers.

We have offered partial solutions by splitting large .zip downloads into many files and suggesting people use adequate download managers; Going forward we need to completely eliminate this problem or we will be forced to change our e-commerce architecture completely (possibly ZenCart or BandCamp). We wish to stay with Virtuemart though.

Please be aware that we run our site on a managed VPS and could therefore adjust all PHP parameters to try and eliminate timeouts etc. as suggested elsewhere in these forums.

We have read, that a possible solution to ensure stability of large downloads (we are talking about downloads everywhere from 150MB to 1 or more GB) is for a Virtuemart Virtual Product plugin to leverage mod_xsendfile modules on Apache Servers.

Could someone please provide us with pointers towards VM 3 Virtual product plugins that have this functionality?
DigiToll plugins had it, but have not been upgraded to VM 3. The Istraxx plugin : not sure it does. Any other ones?

Kind regards to all.

Hello there again

apologies for the bump - no one in the forums even has a small pointer to offer in response to my questions above?

It's quite possible that no one has worked thru your problem so they have no suggestions for you

I would contact the extension developers who support downloads and see if they have any feedback or experience they can share. We sell digital products but they are less than 15M in size so our experience is not relevant.

Thank you for your answer.

The problem was a known one on VM1.1 - though seems not to have been mentioned on VM2/3 forums.

I will try contacting some of the plugin developers and revert if I receive any information that might be of use to the community.

I have now contacted Istraxx yesterday, but have, as of yet, not received any answer to my query.
Digitoll seems to have put development of their VM 3 plugin on hold, I am though contacting the developer again.

Of course, if any one in the VM community had some contribution / explanation to offer we would be very grateful.
