stockable variant

I have been at this for some time now, even hired some programmers to do this for me but it is not working.

i want custom fields to be stockable.

so a jacket in color red-green-blue in sizes s-m-l-xl-xxl etc.
I can add these fields with custom fields, but no stock.

what i can do is use the plugin, to create child products. this works, is a bit more work, but now my child prods are stockable.

is there any way to copy a parent with stockable childs to a new parent-child proudct? this would really help inserting about 500 new products with all these variants.

I think you would be much better off with VM3 - it uses patterns for custom fields etc

install the latest with example products and look how prodid 74 is done
