how do i stop the price being displayed in a custom field...?

Hi, I have a problem that I can't seem to come up with a solution for.

I have a product that I want to have options for, I don't want to create a new product for each option.

So using custom fields I can do this, but the options don't show if I put a starting price of £0.00......I can kind of achieve what I want to do by having a base product with the default custom field being set to £0.00, and then the other custom choices having minus figures in the fields, but i don't want the minus figure to be displayed on the screen in the drop down list......

So basically......

Product  £100

custom field 1 £0.00
custom field 2 -£20        Therefore Product price = £80
custom field 3 -£50        Therefore Product price = £50

But how do I stop the -£20/-£50 being shown in the dropdown list, but it still be taken off the final Product price.......

I'm using Joomla 2.5.18 and VirtueMart 2.6.0.
