Can payments be bypassed entirely? Not charging for items

hello-
I am just beginning to play with Virtuemart and I wonder if someone can save me time not reinventing a wheel. I an not actually selling anything- I'm using it to track inventory for our Scouting group which includes 4 different age levels/groups and multiple parents and leaders who keep gear in their garages and basements. My idea was to enter existing and future gear like tents, stoves, etc and then "sell" them to specific leaders or parents who woudl then be responsible until they returned the equipment... days, or years down the line.

Is there a way to set Virtuemart up so there is no payment method asked for? I can easily "bill" everything at zero dollars and not apply taxes but the system asks for a payment method. Any ideas on bypassing that? Also, is there a way to return an item to stock that might still work a couple of years after the "sale"? If not, I can reenter it as new stock just to track it simce there are no real world financial transactions happening.

Set up a standard payment plugin set to free - Just enter a name, eg Free or whatever you want - set it to published and save. You don't enter anything else on the plugin configuration.

Kelvyn, though it is several months since you replied, I wanted to thank you for your answer. I was going ahead and then was told to put things on hold so I only just now got back to the forum!
