Merchant - Which Can I Use?

I am looking to start up a secure shopping cart with Joomla 2.5 where I can process credit card payments right through my site. Is it possible to use my in-store merchant - Moneris - to process transactions online as well?
If so, how would I do this?
If not, what merchants can I use with Virtuemart 2 and how do I set them up with my website? I will be using Virtuemart as my shopping cart.

The only previouis mention of Moneris in this forum is http://forum.virtuemart.net/index.php?topic=111244.msg375025#msg375025  - I do not know if a suitable payment plugin has yet been developed.
