add to cart open login pop up

i am using joomla 2.5 and virtuemart 2.0.22a

I would like to know if it is possible to redirect non logged user to a popup  when they press add to cart.

user case:

if loged in => click add to cart => goes to checkout
if not logged in => click add to cart=> opens popup asking for username/pass => redirect to checkout if login successful

the reason i need this feature is because some product custom field will be populated with info from the currently loged in user, therefore i cannot have people proceed to checkout if they are not logged in.


i hope this is the right place to post such question.

Then don't user details from the registration info. Why this isn't possible?
