Payment status not updated when first card rejected

Hi there, we have a client that we set up using virtuemart 2.x everything seems to be fine apart from the usual little virtuemart issues, however the other day our client reported a problem where a consumer ordered an item from the store tried to pay for it using the paypal gateway but their card was rejected so they tried using a different card on our cardsave gateway this time the payment was a success and the transaction was completed however the payment status for the order in virtuemart was not updated and was still showing as pending. anyone else come across this issue or know why this might have happend? anyhelp very much appreciated.
