Front end switching back and forth to a glitched out version of my site

Hi,

On our Joomla! site we have a problem with the display on our home page. this is an off and on thing. it will be there for about 5 minutes and then go away. sometimes it will stay longer or less.

but but it looks like there is a coding problem of some sort. i haven't done anything with the code since i don't even know how to access the code.
All the menu items are screwed up and make a "bullet point" list down the page. and some menu items are overlapping each other.

then the images don't show up, and it just does not look good at all.
as if that is not enough, when you click on any of the links it takes you to a 403 forbidden page or a 404 page not found. with the text,
"NOT FOUND, The requested URL /optics/rifle-scopes/bushnell was not found on this server. Apache Server at cstactical.com Port 80"

The issue will happen off and on.
So my site will be working perfectly fine and then ill hit "home" and the website gets all screwed up and the links all go to 404 page not found.
And then ill leave it alone for a little while, and refresh the page and the site will go back to normal.


Another issue is when i search in the Search box for an item from the home page i get results fine, but if i am in another category/ menu item page that the product does not reside in, i get zero results.  i cant figure out how to fix this.

this is really killing our business. If any one could help me i would very much appreciate it. i am not yet very good with understanding so much of how to fix stuff so if you could please explain to me step by step, specific, and in layman's terms i would greatly appreciate it.

Joomla! is Version 2.5.14
VM is Version .... i think VM2 im not sure how to tell. but im pretty sure that i have Virtuemart 2

you may not be able to produce the issue since no one i ever talk to is able to produce this issue on their end. but i am currently seeing what is being displayed in the attachments that i attached to my previous post.

as for the search box, you will be able to definatly produce the same issue i am having.

sounds like your server is having problems.

It's not server the css file, so the bullet points show up for the menu, which is an   <ul><li> based right?

THEN:  404 not found etc.

Use JCH optimize to combine your css files

I am not saying that will help with everything, but it might. You do have lots of css & js files
