Automatic discount for registered customers who made purchases for N money

Hello everyone! I'm frequently asked for this feature, someone managed to achieve this in VM 2 ? Is it possible that i add tracking into backend for every user all his confirmed orders total payments and do some action with it? Where should i dig in? Honestly didn't manage to figure it out...

Example, MR.Smith registers in store, purchase for 3k $ and automatically gets into group with -5% discount or other way to discount his purchase price? important: AUTOMATICALLY

Thanks for the reply. I got a question for development team. Do you guys plan on making better virtuemart shoppers statistics page? You could add few columns into the page and few functions. For example u can add "orders confirmed (i)" where i can be the total in shop currency  or number of finished orders, a function for massive group assignment for example i select 80 users and wanna assign another shoppergroup.
