how do i reverse multi-language setup

This site has /en/ (english language) enabled for multi-language site. I mistakenly set it to UK English in the multi-language area in Config, and then when I used one of the Tools to try to fix an issue, it updated the site to do this... How do I remove that so it is there is no /en/ in the URLS - it seems to cause havoc with the SSL and results in all sorts of css issues (as in... causes the template to default to a mobile setting instead of the correct browser page). I'd like to set the entire site to SSL but I can't when it's in this format either - I tried to enforce it via htaccess but many of the links started having errors with partial SSL and css issues.
