Charging Tax on Shipping Amount - How to do it?

It does not appear to me to be possible to have the shipping amount in the cart applied a tax.  My client says in our state it is now required they charge a tax on shipping.  Additionally, the cart needs to line-item that amount as a separate figure for the invoice, so that that amount is properly attributed as a tax when the client connects to VM2 with their accounting software and imports the invoice data.

This seems to be a big oversight to me with this VM build.  In the drop down selection in taxes and calculations area would it not be possible to include calculations that target the shipping amount variable in the cart?

Has anyone some helpful guidance regarding how I might begin to accomplish showing a tax on shipping in the cart?

I have resolved this by applying the tax rule in the shipping method configuration and it is calculating correctly.  My mistake in how I was reading the cart calculations.
