How to make custom attribute (Customer Custom Text Input) plugin be MANDATORY

I am using Virtuemart 2.0.6

I am not able to upgrade as the main template I am using doesn't support the newer versions.

I created a custom field. Plug-in.. for Customer Custom Text Input. It displays fine on the product pages. However if a customer doesn't enter any information it still allows them to add the product to the cart.

How do you make it so the customer can NOT add the product to the cart unless they enter information into the Text Box?

This is a show stopper for me as if a customer purchases this item without entering information its useless as I need to have a name for personalization of this product.

I have added a screen shot of what I am talking about (not that you need it) as I am sure this issue has presented itself before. I just can't seem to find a solution for it anywhere.
