Does anybody knows the meaning of Manufacturer categories?
What are they need for?
Is this mandatory?

Are they needed to run a shop . No.

They have always been there but in 2.0.12 Plus version I know you can see them more clearly. they allow people to add another level of control, counting, searching to the shop. that is all.
