I see alot of admonitions, instructions etc. asking the users of this forum to make use of searches, FAQs, manuals etc before they post.

These requests are very reasonable, and they serve everyone's best interests.

However, as a VM newbie I am a bit disappointed in the lag between the released product and the documentation to support it.

In almost every software development effort docs lag dev. Perhaps more so with open source efforts, I can't speak to that.

It places a significant burden on support staff, and in the case of open source on the community. The product suffers as a result.

I was just perusing the "Owner's Manual" in the VM ver 2 wiki. Under product category the manual says:

QuoteSpecify the category and sub-category where you want this product to display. Optionally specify how many products per row.

I'm using VM 2.0.8e, the most recent as of this post. There is no such setting as "sub category" on the product category setup screens. In my efforts to figure out why I can't get the product detail page to show up (I'm getting a 404 error, product not defined), these wiki pages don't seem to be up to date enough to use ass a guide in solving the problem.

It seems I have defined and configured the information required to display a single product, but the 404 error says otherwise. Once I get one product to display I will proceed to add more and refine the presentation as necessary with overrides or css.

Until I get that far I remain baffled. Fortunately I'm not on a tight time schedule. But if I can't find a solution in a week I may be forced to look for another cart solution.
