Can I backup my VM in joomla 1.5 and then upload it to Joomla 2.5? HOW?

I have been trying to use the jupgrade tools for joomla but it is not working. So now I would like to know if I can move my info over to a 2.5 joomla site form a 1.526 version.
I have looked for this but am having problems finding the solution.
