Products in packs/containers/groups

My challenge is not to just sell the products themselves but to put some selected products into packs and sell them together. The first solution was to have a new product named as the pack of products but then I can't use stock control with the products. I would like to have a solution that gives me the ability to sell some products together on the price of the pack but after a successful purchase remove the items from the stock. I've found a solution for my problem here: http://www.daycounts.com/en/shop/virtuemart/12-virtuemart-products-containers but this is only for Virtuamart 1.x and Joomla 1.x. It seems to me that the component is discontinued because it can be solved with Virtuemart 2. Do I think it well? Is there another solution for that?
