Installation not completed

Hi guys,
I am working with Mac 10.6.8, PHP Version 5.3.6, and with Joomla! 2.5.4 Stable [ Ember ] 2-April-2012 14:00 GMT
Joomla! Platform Version. Working in localhost with MAMP

Installed first the Virtuemart's first package (com_virtuemart.2.0.6.tar.gz) and that went fine in. But can not install the other one. After choosing it the page is directed in to a empty page and nothig happens. Virtuemart is working somehow but gives in different occasions errors (f. "currency not selected" even that have done it)

What is peculiar is that similar problem occured when installiing Drupal's module's. Then it was giving following error "An AJAX HTTP error occurred. HTTP Result Code: 500 Debugging information follows. Path: http://localhost/commerce/install.php?profile=commerce_kickstart&locale=... StatusText: Internal Server Error ResponseText: "

Found this solution and it worked for me also. So be aware, tar.gz is giving problems

I ran into this problem - and I have the required PHP and mySQL versions. I tried installing the tar.gz.
It didn't work. I tried extracting to my /tmp folder and installing from there. It kind of worked but would
not create the Admin menu.

FINALLY I extracted the files on my local machine and re-saved them as a .zip file (as opposed to the
original .tar.gz) and tried the extension installer again. It worked like a charm.

Don't know why, and I don't really care. I'm just glad I got the thing working
