Category admin Filter Name

Hi, I have moved a large number of categories over from 1.1.9 site (I'm running Joomla 2.5.4 with VM 2.0.6) and at first all the categories were assigned as top level. I worked my way through these, assigning them to their correct parent category but now if I'm in admin and enter a category in the Filter Name box I KNOW EXISTS, nothing is returned. It only returns top level categories.

Have I done something wrong is is there a bug here?
