I am trying to set up a t-shirt store.
t-shirt attributes: product color; print color; print placing;
t-shirt attributes that vary the price: quantity, extra print placing
where can I find some documentation regarding how to setup parent-child products, attributes and price changes?

Unfortunately there is none, and as you can see in this thread http://forum.virtuemart.net/index.php?topic=99299.0 a simple child product with price variant is now much harder to create (maybe not possible?) than it used to be.
If you ever figure it out I would love to hear how
