Title: is Virtuemart 2.0.2 now just a platform for commercial plugin developers?
Post by: daviator on March 13, 2012, 18:17:51 PM
I am helping a client rebuild an e-commerce site. I initially started working in VM 1.1.9 and like most of what I saw. However, the client wanted to go with the newer version for fear of being left behind.

After installing version 2.0.2 I am completely confused as to what happened to the really cool, feature rich Virtuemart I started with. For starters, the shop configuration is very confusing.

Why no downloadable products anymore?
What happened to the store front setup page? (Store logo, store physical address, phone number, etc. ) I see user setup, is that now it?
What happened to all of the shipping and payment options? (Yes, I installed AIO and made sure the plugins were enabled.)
Why no way to fix the Features Products CSS? It looks horrible with all of the info jammed to the left. Also, if you embed the Featured Products in a Joomla article (since you can't add other content to the store's home page) the price and only the price gets truncated only showing the cents.

It's like all of the great, easy to use working features were stripped out and and now only available as paid plugins (if at all). Very frustrating. perhaps it';s time to give Magento a try

I tried version 2 recently and decided to dump it in favour of v. 1.1.9, which works better for my needs, including downloads. There are tales in the forums about the plugin for downloadable products being nearly ready, but they are now very old posts. I don't think its going to happen.

Two plugins have been available for a long time now, so you won't see any recent posts about this...
