When a customer tries to register they get
Fatal error: Call to a member function checkAnswer() on a non-object in /home/vape1/public_html/jtest.vaporescence.com/libraries/cms/form/rule/captcha.php on line 47
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Looks like you have Joomla 2.5's Default Captcha set? Make sure that the Captcha - ReCaptcha has the correct private & public keys entered. Or turn it off.
