Post by: fyreflyX on November 08, 2011, 21:28:42 PM
Anyone found a solution to import / export products / categories for VM 2?

Yes ;)
(export/import from/to what?  ...try to describe more precisely what you intend to do)

Import a CSV of Products and Categories into Virtuemart 2.0
and export products / categories from Virtuemart 2.0 to a CSV

If you want to export/import data from VM 1.1.x to VM 2, VM2 has a built in migration tool. For other purposes I prefer to export/import tables as sql data using either "phpmyadmin" or "HeidiSQL". The latter supports export/import in various formats (never tried anything else than sql myself).

Thanks, but its for a new site, VM 1.1.x isn't installed.  Using import / export by phpMyAdmin would only work temporarily. I was hoping there was a simple tool prebuilt that we could extend, but I guess it needs to be built.

Hello,
If you have data in CSV files, you can use CSV Advanced (http://joomdonation.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=110&Itemid=136) component to import data into Virtuemart 2.x
Sincerely, Giang

Of course there is CSVI (http://www.csvimproved.com) the long time import/export solution for VirtueMart and now also supports other components and VirtueMart add-ons.

as for me the most convenient import solution was a SaaS. It imported all my products with categories and all information in a few hours and saved me lots of nerves ;) now I am planning to set scheduled catalogue update, I think it will be much more productive then doing it every time on my own. I recommend you to check out the service: www.file2cart.com
