Title: I would love some comments for a first attempt
Post by: Nirm on August 28, 2007, 19:13:38 PM
Hi

This is my first attempt with VM and I would really like some feedback. Currently testing and there is at least one bug in the attributes of products

thanks

Outstanding work. Fits the company image well and very, very clean. I've bookmarked as a learning resource for myself. Perhaps you can share some links to some of the tricks you've amassed with this project???

Thanks for the kind words. I have handed the project over to the client last week and have just switched on SEO - the links are now SE friendly. I will be writing up a manual of changes I have made - I would be more than happy to share.

The client is also very happy and wants to give me more work which I suppose is a good sign. :)

Cheers!

You must be using the Artio SEF, right? I'm guessing based upon the uppercase in the URL. I read of several issues with that component regarding checkout and/or SSL checkout.

About the only other thing to recommend is changing the favicon.

I'll keep an eye out for your manual. Thanks.

Yes, Artio SEF. Its funny you said that - as soon as I switched on SEO I got an error on checkout. However, not sure if it an SEO or a coding error. I'll have to read up on the issues you mentioned.

I tested Artsio briefly and found it easy to implement for simple sites but problamatic for certain items, including some aspects of Virtuemart and another component I tested (I forget the one). I only tested it for a few hours and found no reason to switch my efforts from OpenSEF, which is highly configurable and works with any component. One huge reason I like it, even for those components that do not have an SEF extension, is that I can determine the base URL. For example, for a video component, I can change it from the default menu item name to Big Widget Videos, which might be very good for SEO purposes.

Just took a look at my SEO component - and I am using Artio 1.2.4.s - BETA - it appears to be very powerful and I can change URLs  to whatever I wish. However, I think for a live site it would be better not to use a BETA.
