Title: Did Max Milbers die?
Post by: MAD King on January 24, 2024, 20:34:28 PM
Is Max Milbers (Milbo) dead?
It looks like.
Lot of users with a lot of VM issues and his last response was on December 11, 2023, 11:53:58 AM.
Website does also not work properly.

Oh come on :-)

It is just so, that I updated all webpages to last vm and joomla 5 and in detail it is not finished yet. But it takes time to see this details, or to find a solution.

What does not work properly with wich website? and I wanted todo a christmas release, then new year release. But we had all the time some blocker. A release is consuming mental power heavily. You can sit there all day, you "do" almost nothing and at the end of the day you are "fix and foxy" (german saying). this happens due thinking about, what you have to think about. Similar migrating a page.

He is alive. Yippie.
We are all fix und foxy at the end of the day.
Website is not that important.
I don't see the necessary to change the layout. The old one was just fine.
Instead, focusing on all the VM issues would be well more worth the time.

Oh look, the new pages are all with joomla 5, except the demo. I wait for the new BS5 native vm template. It should be ready in 1-2 months. So we will use the current template the next 5-x years. This was a very important step for the future. A lot people decide by the technic of the homepage and think the same counts for the software. I am also a classic opensource guy, shit on the page, make better software. But a lot people, in special customers need it. So webagencies told me already, that the outdated desing of the homepage drove customers away. I think we used it now almost 10 years :-)

LOL  ;D
Max - there is a superstition that a living person who is presumed dead will live a very long time.
Most often, a project (in this case virtuemart) dies with its creator. But this is a good sign, because according to superstition, you will live a very long time  ;D

Cool. Do you plan to rebuild the admin template and mechanism (like toolbar, filters, etc) closer to the core Joomla layout?

When it comes to VirtueMart as an e-commerce platform, functionality and versatility can be key factors for some users who may overlook its visual imperfections. However, if the visual aspect is important to the user, it can indeed be difficult to agree with the opinion that VirtueMart, along with its official website, is visually appealing at first glance. I believe most of us have simply grown accustomed to it.

Most of us probably have a car that simply gets the job done—it performs the same basic functions. But not every car is eye-catching. VirtueMart's official website is akin to a car that gets you from point A to point B, but it lacks the sparkle of something new. Instead, it resembles an old, smoke-spewing junker that everyone tries to avoid, holding their breath as they pass by.

Let's be frank - we all recognize its lack of aesthetic appeal. These are the basics of good marketing - to get noticed, to sell yourself better. Unfortunately, Virtuemart does not do this

PS.
Max - can you block the Cyrillic alphabet on this forum? It would certainly cut down on this Russian spam a bit

Haha, that is great. I love that. Many thanks to you. I am a person believing not in superstition, but on supernatural powers. So I think it fits. In fact we just did an incredible jump the last months. We prepared the project to be ready for the next years. For completion we just wait for the new default vm native template wtih BS5.

Do you talk about the new pages? The virtuemart.net front page is not done yet, but extensions.virtuemart.net looks a lot better than before, I would say.

Yes - these topics are spam and generated by bots. We see a complex Captcha each time which even registered user should pass when create a new topic or in reply form, so my assumption is that SMF version needs to be updated since the current version has vulnerability which bots are using.

This forum is based on SMF 2.0.15
The latest SMF version is 2.1.4: https://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=586097.0 (https://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=586097.0)

Forum engine should be updated too.
