Title: About membership
Post by: bindcommerce on October 14, 2022, 13:15:17 PM
Hi Milbo,
I have been using VirtueMart for many years, and I would like to see it grow, and also continue to choose it for my customers' projects, with the certainty of always having solutions (basic, included in the package, or being able to ask for them, contributing to the costs of development).

Regarding the reliability of the project, I would like to ask you: besides you, is there anyone else on the core development team?

Regarding VIRTUEMART SUPPORTER MEMBERSHIP, what is the difference between Bronze, Gold and Silver? (apart from the price)
Can I transfer the license from a development domain to a production one?

Thank you for these years of commitment to the project.

Paolo

Hello, did you see this link already? https://extensions.virtuemart.net/support-updates/virtuemart-membership

Currently, I am the only one who is contributing code, 10-20 hours a week to the core. But we have also at least 20 people in the core team, which use virtuemart for the living. They constantly test the core. Some of them provide fixes directly. Some of the fixed can be used directly, others need hours of adjustments, but to get the core idea of the fix, took the tester hours, too.
It changes, there was a year with a very active user, who added a lot small but great enhancements to the core. Another one has a lot users with bigger shops and provides also code. Anyone can committ code, I would like to be just the code guard. So a lot testers are also code committers. The we have a templater who donated the horme3 template. Anyone can know who it is, but I just decided to mention no names. Another core coder committed the backend template. And so on.
The testers and moderators do a really big job.

The different options are for three reasons. You can just buy a gold membership, because you say I merit it. Or you say "I want a bit support, some questions here and there. Or you want that I add a feature to the core, or solve a problem by changing the core. I added really a lot features to the core the last years, often paid by membership. If you buy a gold membership for feature development you can expect more than buying 2 hours of speshitpilled development, because the changes enhance the core for all users.
and of course the bug reporting priorisation changes by your level of membership. Lets say you have no membersip and you report a critical security issue. I will fix it as fast as I can, regardless the membership of course :-). If you bought a bronze membership, and report a problem, I will fix the problem of the gold membership first. I hope you get the idea.
There are people who just buy the gold membership and ask for nothing. There was another one who bought the goldmembership and had then problems to configure 3rd party extensions bought on extensions.virtuemart.net, which relied in his store (imho vm1 migrated), and just wanted, that I help him with that. And there was another guy who had problems to enter the serial number and wanted his money back (what does not really help me).

Thank you for the clarifications!

You just forgot this question: Can I transfer the license from a development domain to a production one?
or is there no real relationship between membership and domain?

The membership is per domain, but just for the "message". I see the membership as a personal thing. For example a webagency buys a membership, which can be used for one customer. But the relation keeps between me and the webagency.

I will always run a development site alongside a production site domain.

Does that mean I have to use two licenses or will the development site work with the production domain license?

You can use membership exactly:
- one domain is with support
- other domain not

resume:
- production site is with support
- devel domain is not

That is all :)
