Title: upgrade files
Post by: StompJames on March 15, 2019, 17:53:50 PM
Hello,

I am looking to upgrade from VM 3.2.2 to VM 3.4.2 but on a test site I have had a few issues with the category pages looking different yet the files are the same as on the live one within the template.

I have noticed some difference between the basic structure of the divs, classes seem different - please see my screenshots. It seems some classes - in this example 'page' have been removed.

I expect I will get asked to supply a URL but I am unable to do so currently for NDA reasons with clients. I am just interested in how the VM update changes structure and what files are affected, most importantly - is there a way to stop templates being changed in this way and still update to the latest VM?

Is VM secure without regular updates?

Regards,

James

Let's start by mentioning that VirtueMart versions 3.2.6 and 3.2.14 were security releases, so at the very least these updates should have been installed.  In addition, no Joomla version earlier than the current 3.9.4 is secure.   So the answer to your last question is that regular updates of Joomla/VirtueMart and any other installed extensions are required not only as bug-fixes, but also to maintain site security.  http://forum.virtuemart.net/index.php?topic=118683

I'm not aware of any template changes, but most people use overrides anyway so are unlikely to be affected by updates. If there is a required template change then that is usually mentioned in the release notes and commercial template developers are expected to provide updates for their own template files.
