I am using 3.4.2 and it seems that the drop down menu structure has changed over time? It has worked well for the past 4 years? I just happened to look at my categories layout and noticed that my main item root menu is rendered with the "front page" menu rather than the "categories layout" menu?
Everything works fine but the main menu "front page" says it is deprecated? It has been a while since I have did anything to the menus and everything seems to work fine.
I am concerned that this will cause issues in future upgrades?
I tried switching to a "category menu" page for my main item menu page and the whole structure is not happy. Everything needs to be re routed to the new category main page and it appears that I have some overrides on the drop down menu and apparently they are associated to the old "front page" menu?
My question is will it be a bad thing to keep the "front page" menu instead of converting to a "category menu" instead?

as the old front page has been depreciated for maybe 2 years now there is every chance in a major release it will be dropped all together
The new "only cat" page layout is much more adaptable than the old FP
If I understand this correctly I think this front page "landing page" is what I have a module already linked to. So would I need to create another category page to replicate the front page? I kind of like having a page that is a landing page to add info or something about the categories?
Currently my front page is marked as "products" and when I go to this page I have a responsive pic linked this page. Will this need to be a new category page now?
It seems that I will need a second page to link all child categories to?
It seems like an easy fix to replicate the front page but I cant figure out which menu item to use to accomplish this.
