Hi,
In my clients website, some products were disable. However, they were referred as related products to others and now the related products lists shows "image not available" on those disable ones. On click it opens a new window with the shop homepage.
Is there a way to remove disable products from related lists hide them somehow?

Assuming that you are using a Joomla template with overrides, check to see if this happens with Protostar.
I'm sorry, I had a very difficult morning, I forgot to attached my file and I should known better and provided more information. :o :-[
I'm using gavick InStyle template, width virtuemart 3.0.18, Joomla 3.6.5 and PHP 5.4.45.
With Protostar the problem remains.

This sounds like a template which does not show messages, this is very bad. Actually you see a 404. I think you should update, because I believe I fixed that. Not sure though.
I'm not really concerned with not having the message, but showing a product that is not available anymore in related products list. Of course I could remove it manually, but that would mean to verify thousands of products, one by one.

It is a crucial error! The shop cannot communicate with the shopper!

Thank you for your concern, but the shop is not online yet and I know how to solve that issue.
I just updated and the problem remains (although now it just shows a blank space where the disable product used to be) with my template but it's solved with protostar.
So now it's between me and the template.
