The latest version of VirtueMart 3.0.18 has added a new option when creating a menu item VirtueMart Categories, see:

To display: Show feature, Show latest products, Show Top ten products, Show recent.
When activated, these options, these modules are not time will be displayed on the front of the site.

Cash in the administrative panel site, cleansed in the browser.
I tried to change to standard Joomla! templates.

You use an obselete template. So your template do not understand this options.
