I am new to VirtueMart but wanted to know if it was possible (with the help of a freelancer or developer) to create a individual item template that had tabs on it like this as an example http://www.starwoodhotels.com/sheraton/property/overview/index.html?propertyID=3372
So when you say clicked on my site and clicked hotel in a particular city you got a list of hotels and then when you clicked on the individual hotel it would have tabs at the top of the page HOME PHOTOS ROOMS LOCATION SERVICES & AMENITIES DINING MEETINGS & EVENTS and then you could click on each one to see different information?
Jim
Surely a hotel booking extension would be more appropriate for this?
I haven't found one yet that looks and functions great; plus I don't need to booking side of things.
So in effect you are using VM as a catalogue extension.. for this it works well
the hotel "VM product" display can be coded to display in any way you want...
assume you will use custom fields for the different tabs etc
Thanks yes that is correct.
Do you think it is something I can do on my own with a bit of input and guidance from forum members?
Is there a good tutorial anywhere you have seen in regards to editing the product template?
Many thanks Jim
Editing the template system is pretty easy, but VirtueMart is an eCommerce extension, so to get what you want would need an awful lot of work. If you have resonable PHP, HTML and css skills then maybe you could do it.
You would be better using something like SobiPro with a lot of customisation. I have used RSDirectory (https://www.rsjoomla.com/joomla-extensions/joomla-directory-ads-management.html) for an accommodation directory - but with less functions than you appear to need.
Most sites like you describe are purpose built from scratch.
Sobi has a very steep learning curve ( and I personally don't use it) -- my current Directory favourite is http://demo.joomultra.com/judirectory/ju-directory/4-business/20-intercontinental-new-york-barclay
experiment with the free version.. but again .. it is more a basic html/css question as how data is displayed - once you have it stored
Thanks guys for all the input. I will have a look at these options.
If you get a chance could you look at my other post; http://forum.virtuemart.net/index.php?topic=135149.0
Many thanks,
Jim
