I've set the Minimum purchase order value for your shop to £50 but when I try to complete a purchase below this amount it doest show any notification at all, it just refreshes the cart page?

Is it possible to display a message so the customer knows theres an issue

Using Protostar with default VM templates an info message is displayed. eg:
Message
The minimum purchase value is 100,00 €.

Look at your Joomla template to check for a system-message-container div or similar to show warnings.
