Title: Auto parts filter structure
Post by: multisant on May 23, 2016, 18:08:38 PM
Hi there,

I am working on a Virtuemart 3 shop for car parts. Is there a possibility to filter by car brand (BMW) and model (3 Series) after someone has selected for example tires.

Can manufacturers have sublevel items like the categories?

Thank you in advance!

No but you can use categories for manufacturers.

You probably need to look at this:  https://breakdesigns.net/extensions/custom-filters

No but you can use categories for manufacturers.

e.g. this is all VM category based...  https://www.4wdpartshop.com.au/

I have a customer using categories as manufacturer/model/series/part.
It's really easy then to have right structure without any need of filters.
Remember that a product can have multiple categories in virtuemart so this structure have no limits and is very user friendly and simple to maintain.

From my point of view every field should be related only with 1 property.
Creating a big category list where every possible property lives there, seems like not so clean and hard to manage approach.

At least VM gives you the ability to create any type of property through custom fields and have a clear and well manageable structure.
