Title: VM 3.0.14 en-GB language package
Post by: ClaudioRomeo on March 15, 2016, 15:11:41 PM
Hi.
When the VM 3.0.14 en-GB language package can be downloaded?

As far as I know language packages have no versions, they are simply updated by users in their free time.

The package you mention is the default one included in VM so it should install with version 3.0.14 if you need another one http://virtuemart.net/community/translations/virtuemart

Thanks, lindapowers.
I need just the en-GB package because I edit a customized version of the it-IT package, so I need the English one to make a comparison and translate new strings. The one now available is not updated, so I collated each language file from the VM package.
I cooperate with the Italian team who uses Transifex for VirtueMart localization, but Transifex is sometime too slow and often someone undoes what I do. I prefer a consistent Italian translation, not a literal one.
So, I based on my customized translation the Italian version of the Reference Guide I wrote.
My Italian translation is downloadable at no cost from the VirtueMart Matters (https://www.virtuemartmatters.com/en/extensions-more-functions-in-virtuemart/virtuemart-matters-italian-translation-our-translation-for-free.html) site.

Thank you, lindapowers.
I've just downloaded (again!) the file, but it is not updated.
I use Meld (on Linux) to compare folders and files, so it is very easy verifying that files like en-GB.com_virtuemart.ini or en-GB.com_virtuemart_config.ini (admin folder) are not the same we can find the the VirtueMart 3.0.14 package.
For example, in the GB.com_virtuemart_config.ini file of the language pack the following strings are not present:
COM_VIRTUEMART_CFG_SEO_FULL="Use full category tree for product links"
COM_VIRTUEMART_CFG_SEO_FULL_TIP="Disable to creates shortened links omitting the categories"
COM_VIRTUEMART_CFG_SEO_SUFFIX="Use product link suffix"
COM_VIRTUEMART_CFG_SEO_SUFFIX_TIP="Adds a suffix to the product links, can enhance performance for bigger stores"

Theese strings are very important in the 3.0.14 version!
The differences are several.
IMHO, the Transifex flow has to be revised.

I'll try to update the files on Transifex soon. However, I'm not sure when I will have the time to do that. At present I'm moving to a new place, so I have A LOT of other things with higher priority. Sorry for the delay.

Hello again, I do not recommend you to write an italian translation aside from the official one.

You are doing twice the work and in long term is useless.

I faced the same problem as you with the spanish translation back in the day when some users were undoing my translations. Won't have complained if at least they were well done, so I asked here for someone to make me revisor. That allows you to check your own translation or the one's made by others and mark them as checked so no one else can modify it. If the translation is already done you can simply check it, modify it if needed and mark it as checked.

If you ever stop working in your separate pack that will be useless for those using it, while in transifex even if you did that others will keep translating it so please make your efforts in transifex and contact JJK in case you need to become a revisor.

I have already seen several projects aside of vm for translation which were either abandoned or never completed.

Regards

EDIT: About the literal translation I agree with you.

I try to keep it literal wherever possible but I use logical terms for my language, VM is translated by germans so english is not perfect either but mostly.

An example:
They used "purchase quantity steps" when the correct term is "multiples". If I translate it literal it simply makes no sense.

Same as parent/child product which are really main/derivative product. (parent/child for products sounds ridiculous in my language).

Thank you, lindapowers.
You made me feel understood.
Unfortunately, there is something which is going wrong with Transifex and the Italian team of translators. I joined the project four years ago, but my leader doesn't seem to have control. He can't moderate the work that has been done.
And, yes: it seems I am a reviser already. But nothing changes.
But your message showed me that the problem is just realizing the correct way of operating with Transifex.
So, I will look deeper into it.
Thank you again.
