I'm using Joomla 3.4.8 and Virtuemart 3.0.12. having an issue with order status updating after order is confirmed through PayPal. It stays on pending and doesn't update, unless I manually change it
If you use SSL(https), your certificat need to be valid SHA-256, so check this.
I'm experiencing the same issue for a Joomla 3.4.8 and Virtuemart 3.0.12 webshop. We don't run on the websit on SSL(https), is it required for PayPal to get the status changes to work?
If you use https, you need a valid SHA-256 certificate. If you dont use https, this is not needed(is i know)

No my website uses the http. I submitted a ticket for help with the plug-in that I bought from Virtuemart extensions but the plug-in works, not as good as "Downloads for Sale". It's a PayPal issue, could be the PayPal plug-in?
Does anyone have access to the latest PayPal plug-in?. I have one that came with the template I bought but it's probably 6 months old. I updated my Virtuemart and Joomla through the updates that appear on the back-end of Joomla. Is there an updated PayPal plug-in for Virtuemart 3.0.12?

I did it still doesn't automatically update. This is the only problem that I'm having and because of it, my website is floating in cyberspace with no purpose whatsoever
Okay, I figured out why the PayPal status stays on "pending" forever. When you setup the Sandbox in the configuration for Virtuemart 3.0.12, make sure you use a "Business" e@mail account from your Sandbox developer account. Use this e@mail address for "Sandbox Merchant email for the PayPal configuration in Virtuemart . You set this up in sandbox as your seller account
Then setup your buyer account with an e@mail and a password in the sandbox development and use this to make your purchase.
I don't know if this is the main issue for this problem or not, I just know I did a fresh install of Virtuemart 3.0.12 and tried all sorts of things like IPN simulator and was going crazy wondering why it didn't work
