Title: 404 error on subdomain
Post by: quigley595 on January 26, 2016, 08:58:41 AM
Hi folks,
I hope someone can help here...  I am going crazy.

I have a site (say 'xxx.com'), which works perfectly....  I backed this up and restored into a sub domain ('dev.xxx.com'), to use as a test/development site, using Akeeba Backup.
the 'dev.xxx.com' site works in every respect, except for VM.
I have a menu link for 'Shopping' going to the VM Front Page (Menu Item type = VirtueMart---Front Page), but I get a 404 error on this in the dev site.
Under this main menu option, I have sub-menus, each one going to a VM Category (Menu Item type = VirtueMart---Category Layout), and these ALL work fine....

*   I have changed the URL on VM Shop Vendor config tab to 'dev.xxx.com'.... no go
*   I have done the 'Fix Database'... no go.
*   I have disabled (renamed) the .htaccess file...  no go.
*   I have turned OFF SEF URLs...  no go.

I am using Joomla 3.4.4  & VM 3.0.7
the directories all seem OK

I have looked everywhere I can (except for the right place of course :-) :-) :-) ) and still can't see where this is going wrong.

Any pointers would be greatly appreciated....

thanks,
Mike

try remaking the menu...

Thanks for your reply GJC!...  Greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately, that didn't work for me.....

Rebuilt the complete menu (just the Top Menu, where the issue was),  cleaned the Cache in both the sever and browser.....  but still the same issue.....
I have even tried creating a new menu option for the 'VM Front Page' menu type...  still no go...  and it all works on the production site, of which this is a backup!!

Can't understand why the top link ('Shopping, going to the VM Front Page) doesn't work, while the items below that ('Opt 1,2,3 etc, going to the VM Category Layout), DOES work.

More 'Diablo Ex Machina', than 'Deus Ex Machina' I think!  ???  ???  ???
I thought I was crazy before....  but now I'm convinced!

should keep it public.. this is a resource for all VM users

yes.. drop the https  as there isn't a valid cert and even if there was there appears to be some misconfig

remove the .htaccess to test and un select the use ssl in Joomla admin

ssl isn't being forced.. if I use http it works  .. so see no reason why the url would get a https on it

none of the other urls are ssl

GJC, I agree.... should keep it public.... I just didn't want to display the URL right now.

Thanks again for all your help, believe me, I greatly appreciate it.

I have previously done all of the below, still without success....  so, since this is a development site, and every other link seems to work except that one VM Front Page one, I might leave it as is....  but I'm still perplexed as to where it is getting the HTTPS from!

I have:

all with no luck....  It has just got me stumped.

Thank you again for your assistance......   you are a gentleman and the word needs more like you!

GJC...

We had a sitcom here in Australia years ago, where one of the characters was called Effie, who had one catch-phrase in particular.   "How embarrassment!".
Well...  I think I am channeling her now.

After all my anguish.....  you have dropped the ball right into the net between the goalies legs   :-[  :-[  :-[

That of course was exactly the cause of the problem! On the Metadata tab.....   of all places!
I cannot begin to thank you enough!.....  I very definitely 'owe you a beer'  You are magnificent.

Thanks again for your great assistance in this...  I am indebted to you!

To tell the truth after years of joomla I never even realised it was there.. I vaguely remembered something one time years ago with j1.5 and ssl menus and I used this setting to hack a nofollow selection on each menu item but wasn't till you said it was just "being added" for no apparent reason to just one menu.. then click...
