Standard the Virtuemart shop is equiped with following options for items out of stock.
Action when a Product is Out of Stock
- Send low stock notification
- Products Out of Stock are orderable, no special action
- Do not Display Product
- Do not Display Product, if child products also out of stock
- Displays 'Notify Me' instead of 'Add To Cart' button
- Products Out of Stock are orderable, and the field 'Availability' below is displayed
I would like to have an extra option :
- Products Out of Stock are not orderable and shown and the field 'Availability' below is displayed : sold out
I'm using Virtuemart for Vintage items for which most of the times I only have 1 item. But I want to be able to show my sold products. But visitors should not be able to select the item for basket again..
How can I create such option ?

These items are not expected to return, they are always different and unique.

one line in your category and details template.. over ride and a Joomla lang over ride

Was there ever a descent answer for this. I have a similar situation. One off products but I would like to show a back catalogue so that customers could request a commissioned build.
I am happy with don't show out of stock items in the store but would like to have a separate menu item showing items that have been sold.

I'd handle that by seeting up a back-catalogue category and assigning the special products to that category only. Then use template overrides for that category to remove prices (if necessary) and the add-to-cart bar, replace with an enquire link.
