Title: Can you copy users info from an old database to a new fresh install
Post by: websmith on January 03, 2016, 00:49:10 AM
Happy New Year Everyone!

VM 3.0.12 Joomla 3.4.8

Im working on setting up a fresh install and have one problem. The owner had a very old version of joomla /vm 1.0.15. He has the database file with all the old data and wanted to move the old customer users and old orders to the new install. Is this possible? and what would the steps be? I guess even if just the users info so they can continue to login would be great.

CSVI starts with version 2.5 and up so I dont think thats an option. Would exporting just the users from phpmyadin and importing it into the new vm install work, or are the databases vastly different. Thanks for any advise.

Quotevastly different
-- well -- not compatible
try https://www.daycounts.com/vm-migrator

or

for users to work they first have to be present as joomla users in J3 .. so I guess you need to migrate them thru any of the Joomla migration techniques

then you need to get them from VM1 to VM3

I can't remember what the old VM1 tables were like.. if similar to VM1.1. then using the std. VM1.1. to VM 3 migration for users might work

just try the vm1 tables in the J3/VM3 db (the table names are different so wont clash) .. then try the VM admin tools

if it wont work another possibility is to get them into Joomla and put up with the fact they will need to re-enter there address details etc (assuming no orders are required)
