Title: Shipping Estimates for VM3?
Post by: mowlman on August 05, 2015, 18:24:50 PM
If anyone knows how to implement Shipping estimates, such as UPS, within the cart where the customer only has to enter their postal code, it would be greatly appreciated! I can also devote some coding time for this as well.

In the old VM1 days, a custoemr could add an item to their cart, enter a zip and get shipping estimates without having to register. Now it seems the closest thing is having guest checkout enabled and then they have to enter an email address and then find the appropriate postal entry area to enter their zip.

Thanks for any feedback any of you can provide,
-Bill

It would depend entirely on each shipping provider unless you want to maintain a local DB of postcodes and tarifs etc

I sell for example a AusPost estimator  - it only requires a postcode and as you add to cart the shipping is returned - but the api calls etc would need to be coded for each shipping provider

I did a multi provider estimator here:  http://www.suzistore.com.au/cars-and-vans.html

How about a Shipping Estimate that puts in a date that is say 2-3 weeks from date of confirm? Like an automated system.
Of course we will have to be able to change it if it goes past that ETA?

Anyone?

why would the shipping be any different 3 weeks from now than today??

I dont think I explained myself correctly.

I was thinking of putting a notification on the invoice, or even the user logs into their account on the store, and within the order, displays an ETA of a date 3 weeks from when the order status has changed to confirmed.

Example. A shopper purchases and item on the 22nd of November. His ETA of his order will be the 6th of December (3 weeks time). We would of course need to be able to change that date in the admin area because for example, the 6th of December is Sunday.

Know what I mean?
