Your issues are coming from your template. Switch to Beez and see how it looks there. You will probably need to rewrite the template overrides provided with your template. http://forum.virtuemart.net/index.php?topic=108212.0
You also have a product image thumbnail height setting in config of 400px, and have not cropped all the whitespace from the image before uploading.
