I installed VM+Joomla in a subdirectory when I started revamping a 'handmade' store on my site. Now that the store itself looks good I'm wondering how to incorporate the rest of my non-CMS site into VM-Joomla.
I have my original 'handmade' homepage as the index.html page.
What is the recommended way to replace the existing index page with a CMS based page (and then get the rest of the html site pages into the CMS)?
One solution I saw was to just use an htaccess redirect to address the index.html page issue (get a CMS generated page to act like the site index page) - but is that really a good solution?
why not just have a menu stricture on your hand carved index.html page that leads to what ever you need?
Once you have your cms (vm) menu finished you can just copy/paste the source html to your index.html, incl. the css - job done
I think I understood your suggestion, but my problem is this: something with the handmade site pages causes them to upload very slowly. I'm trying to solve that problem by using only CMS generated pages (with all the w3 callups and declarations)...
up to you - then get rid of the index.html -
move Joomla to the root and it's set home page will load
If I do move Joomla to the root, what do I do about VM: I have it installed where I do want the store itself to be - but can I access VM functionality on other pages once Joomla is in the root, or would I have to move VM to the root as well?
you just shift the whole Joomla install folder up one level - it incl. VM
takes 2 sec via the cpanel filemanager - select all, drag and drop in the root
backup 1st obviously
Thanks! Just to confirm: if I move everything as you suggested above, would the present website homepage be the Joomla page or VM?
How do I configure the website homepage to be either Joomla or the VM store HP?
it will be what ever you have set as your Joomla home page menu
