Title: Unable to install VirtueMart 2.6.10
Post by: crowder.dr on October 02, 2014, 12:50:36 PM
I have tried multiple times as has my hosting company to install VirtueMart 2.6.10. We have tried through the Joomla Extention manager by uploading the zip file and also by placing it in the tmp directory and finally by unzipping the contents into the tmp folder. All attempts have produced the following errors or the extension manager redirects to the control panel without error

        Please enter a package directory
        JLIB_INSTALLER_ERROR_NOTFINDJOOMLAXMLSETUPFILE
Path does not have a valid package.

Or

JLIB_INSTALLER_ERROR_NOTFINDXMLSETUPFILE
JLIB_INSTALLER_ERROR_NOTFINDJOOMLAXMLSETUPFILE
Path does not have a valid package

You are trying to install on Joomla 2.5.x?

Did you first unpack the two components?   com_virtuemart.2.6.10_extract_first.zip

See http://forum.virtuemart.net/index.php?topic=100256.0

Yes I unpacked the download to produce two separate zip files the base and the addons. The base will not install regardless of the method used. I have cleared the cache etc with negative results. When I look in the file system I can see the file structure is there but there are no menu items and the modules and component do not show up in the manage tab of the manager.

Can you install other extensions on your site?
What is your php version?
What errors are shown after an unsuccessful install?
Have you tried unzipping it in the tmp folder and installing from there?
Are there no errors in logs?

QuoteWhen I look in the file system I can see the file structure

where exactly?

components/com_virtuemart and administrator/components/com_virtuemart ?

I have installed perhaps 100's of copies of VM - never have a problem - it just works..

Yes in both locations

If it says it can't find an xml file (the install insructions) how then is it installed?

I would wipe the server (or try in a subfolder) and try a fresh Joomla or use the complete Joomla/VM pack on the files download page

Ahhhh thanks but I don't think I will be wiping a site that otherwise functions fine and is full of years of content. Thanks anyways. If no one else has a solution I will try another product.
