Hello, I am trying to set my currency to US Dollars, but the currency is not showing under the vendor tab. I have clicked on the "is vendor" button for the admin. I have joomla 2.5.11 and virtuemart 2.6.6.

Your Joomla version is seriously old and should be updated - current would be J2.5.24 http://forum.virtuemart.net/index.php?topic=118683

I will... every time I update, something ends up not working. Will that fix the issue?

Updating Joomla won't fix the issue, but will remove the possibility of the site being hacked. Then read the docs.
