Title: Add a Product Charge
Post by: dbclifford on June 19, 2014, 21:09:05 PM
Hi, apologies if this has been asked and answered.  Please just point me there.

I am trying to charge my vendors for uploading/adding a product to the inventory.  I have successfully completed the add a product part of it and tested nine ways to Sunday and it works great.  Now, if I can just make my money when they post their products for sale.  I want to keep it a simple process that pays me via PayPal (which is already configured as well).  The charge price will be a constant so if that makes it easier....

Joomla 2.5.17
VirtueMart 2.6.6

Thanks!

I tried some more things today to see if I can find such a thing, but was unsuccessful.  It could be that there isn't an easy answer for this and maybe hasn't been tried before.  In any event, if anyone has an idea, I'm still here.   :D

Natively VM won't do anything like this - if you can't find an extension you would need to write one or commission one..

although struggling to see how it would work?

So they need to buy credits to upload products? Or the product isn't published until what?
I'm thinking this is far more complex than your anticipating

I think you're right, it is a bit more complex.

The idea is simple in concept, call it a listing fee for the product they want to add to the site.  And what I was thinking is that they get directed to PayPal, approve the payment and then it comes back to the site for them to follow the uploading process.  Creating a small proc to have them do that outside of VM is probably the ticket.

Thanks for your input!  It is most appreciated!

I think the simplest way is a credit system - the prebuy points- credits whatever by Paypal - this is stored .. everytime they want to upload a product a credit is deducted - when they run out they need to buy more and the saving of products is disabled

but their are other complexities - if they delete a prod do they recieve a credit etc-- if sold what happens and so on

I hadn't thought of a credit system, and considering the content they will be uploading (handmade crafts and the like), a packet of credits for multiple items could be a good way of doing this.  Now, the person that creates one item type with the same criteria and only a non-cost aspect of it is different than the next probably wouldn't benefit in buying a pack of creadits, but I could sell said credits in singles too.

That all being said, that may do well in my scenario.  And since I have not done this type of thing before, can I ask you in feasibility only, is there a way for a person to start the "listing process" and at completion or final submit, have VM draw from a bank of credits?  Reason I ask is this could also get complex just on the listing part.

And you do have a point on crediting the credits (for lack of a better term), removing an item before selling or some other scenario could be complex as well.

What you want to do is feasible but not simple - it will require probably a stand alone credit management component and plugins for VM to deduct and credit the credits
