Is there an upgrade path from (JM2.5 VM 2.6) to (JM3.3 VM2.9.4) :-\
i'd like to test starting from a backup of my site
Thanks
haven't tried but first upgrade joomla to J3 (only tested on fresh J3 so far)
then just install vm2.9 over the top
it is backwards compatible to J2.5 as well so is just a normal install

Why not the other way round?
Logic tells me to install VM 2.9.4 first and then update Joomla no? or it doesnt matter?
What I have read always is that before upgrading Joomla you should first update extensions to for Joomla 3.x but correct me if im wrong please.
Regards
I usually update Joomla first, get the template sorted, then start on components, modules & plugins.
what do you mean with "get the template sorted" ?
sorry for my bad english..
you may need to adjust your current J2.5 template and over rides to J3 spec....
ok thanks, normally i change template to one very simple, upd. to jm33, upload new template for jm3.x and switch back to :)
on J3 the native protostar is very nice clean basic template - normally use this as my starting point
i've upgraded my JM2.5 VM 2.6 to JM3.3 VM2.9.5 with this step:
1. uninstall VM2.6
2. clear cache
3. upgrade to JM 3.3
4. install VM2.9.5 : some errors installing
5. disable all not working payments plugin
then site work fine :)

1. uninstall VM2.6
You should NOT uninstall the vm2 core, aio or extensions. Otherwise you may get new ids and you get in trouble.
without uninstall i cannot install vm2.9.5 :-[
fail with some errors
no that should work, that is really strange, please post the errors then, next time.
Upgrading to 2.9.6 i've this:
Error
Unable to write entry
and still:
Warning
Warning, the Safe Path is not accessible (does not exist or no permission)
on config page
The module still work fine as frontend

Error
Unable to write entry
Sound like a joomla error. is it vmError? in red?

Warning, the Safe Path is not accessible (does not exist or no permission)
As the warning says, check your safepath settings
QuoteError
Unable to write entry
means normally a file is not writeable . see http://www.gjcwebdesign.com/joomla-virtuemart-tips/785-joomla-an-error-has-occurred-copy-file-failed.html
by un-installing the previous your deleting this file so it can be written
