I want to sell ONE item...and multiple quantities of it.
Is it possible or does somebody know of a template that will allow me to display ONE item AND the checkout fields on ONE page.

I have VM2 installed now and I am fairly proficient in its operation, My client just cut down their inventory to only one item...they want to be able to keep all of the coupons, discounts and pricing and inventory structure that is inside VM2 but they want a simple clean ONE page experience.
They are using paypal as their processor and do not want folks to have to leave the page to purchase in any capacity.
I have built pages like this before using Authorize.net and RSformPro.
but never using VM2 and paypal as a base.
Possibly achieved through a VM2 template or a new theme, could achieve this?
oh, and has to be responsive for mobile.
please advise.

It should be possible with PHP / VM Coding knowledge and a template override. But I think this is not a 10 min job and someone from this forum can develop this for you for free. Maybe as commercial job.
I don't know a ready solution or a ready template for this.
I agree - it is possible - but it is a large coding effort with all sorts of "gotchas" to be solved while doing it...
would be hours as opposed to minutes...
Yeah, that's the problem...everything has to be custom coded.
I have a one page shopping setup using authorize.net and it works perfect. It was created using RS-Form-Pro.
unfortunately the same type of layout isn't available on a paypal based system.
This is proving way hard than it needs to be. I have search high and low and cannot find one single Joomla extension that allows you to sell one product AND collect the customer payment/shipping data on the same page.
It's insane that nobody has wanted to do this in Joomla before.
I can produce these simple checkout pages in one day very easily using rsform and authorize.net checkout...I do it often for a client who use was doing many Google Offers back to back.
I just don't see why its so hard to integrate into Virtuemart. This way we can take advantage of coupons, shipping rates and other backend goodies.
Virtuemart is requiring too many steps lately for customer to check out..even with one page integration.
I need quick simple, intuitive checkout that can tie into paypal, google checkout and not bog the users experience down with too many fields to fill out.
think....single page super simple checkout...This ideaology should be standard by now.
Going to start looking into Woocommerce and Opencart next for a solution.
