If I go to the product on my site below:

http://oxfordgenetics.com/plasmid-products/protein-secretion/bacterial-secreted/bacterial-secretion-tag/og3042-psf-oxb20-nh2-ompa-6his-tev-detail (http://oxfordgenetics.com/plasmid-products/protein-secretion/bacterial-secreted/bacterial-secretion-tag/og3042-psf-oxb20-nh2-ompa-6his-tev-detail)

and after the page loads I change say, "protein-secretion" to say "virtuemart-is-brilliant" in the browser address bar leaving the rest of the URL as it was, then virtuemart takes this new, but absurd URL and loads the product as if the url was correct still:

http://oxfordgenetics.com/plasmid-products/Virtuemart-is-brilliant/bacterial-secreted/bacterial-secretion-tag/og3042-psf-oxb20-nh2-ompa-6his-tev-detail (http://oxfordgenetics.com/plasmid-products/Virtuemart-is-brilliant/bacterial-secreted/bacterial-secretion-tag/og3042-psf-oxb20-nh2-ompa-6his-tev-detail)

Why does this happen?
Can I change it so I get a 404? Do I want to change it so I get a 404?

Thanks JJK. We are split as to whether this is a feature or a bug. I personally like the behaviour and I never had any problems with 301s (and there have been many). Thanks for the help.
