Is there a way to make the VM 2 checkout similar to current checkout? In the older version of VM, when you clicked "Checkout" it would bring you to a screen like this: http://awesomescreenshot.com/06a2dw0d6d with kind of an accordian effect when loading. Then if you select new it expands to this: http://awesomescreenshot.com/0342dvzfe2 We're building a new site on Joomla 2.5 and VM 2.0. The effect of the one I mentioned above that I like is VM 1.1.5.

I'm 95% sure you can't currently have this functionality any more. :(
You can probably reproduce that historic checkout using overrides and some bespoke JavaScript, depends on your programming skills or level of your development budget. However most VM users now want a flexible one page checkout, which is why that is now part of VM2, and is improved for the next version(s).
There are a number of different third party checkouts, look through http://forum.virtuemart.net/index.php?board=135.0 and on http://extensions.virtuemart.net/

Thanks so much for the link to the resources Kelvyn. I'll check out some of those. I think the solution just might be in there somewhere. At least there are some fairly good options anyway.
